While growing up sport was never a love for Leonie as she always found herself lacking energy and would struggle through a game of netball. At 13 she was diagnosed with underactive thyroid and this connected some dots as to her constant fatigue. Always in the ball games on sports day in high school she knew she could never be an athlete. To keep in shape she joined an aerobics class and the old Loxton gym to take part in their circuit and body pump class. Over the next few year’s strength training was off and on again depending on time and motivation. It wasn’t until after the birth of her second child in 2008 that health and fitness took on new meaning and passion.
In 2011 at the age of 32, at a cross road in life after being a stay at home mum for 5 years, life coach Sheree Cameron guided her to realise how passionate Leonie was about helping people and how fitness had become such an integrated part of life and so Leonie decided to study to become a personal trainer.
The first PT sessions took place in the games room at home – dodging the bar and pool table with only a set of old school dumbbell handles and plates for equipment. Over time the games room was transformed into a fully decked PT Studio. The bar and pool table was removed and in came rubber flooring, squat rack and leg press and numerous cardio and free weight items. Personal Training became a full time job with a long waiting list of potential clients and locals asking if they could use the gym for their own workouts.
In early 2013 the decision was made that the studio being part of the family home was not ideal any longer and a bigger location was needed – a place that the public could come and go, somewhere that other trainers could work from and a place that could help more people achieve their goals. So the idea of opening a 24/7 gym was born and work began towards achieving that.
The road to opening the gym was a long one. Hours of research was needed, a location had to be secured, a business plan had to be written and finance was needed before the actual setting up of the gym could begin. Renovations and modifications to the building took several months with Leonie and Steve working long hours with the help of family support and other tradies.
Then finally, in late November 2013… the gym opened its doors to the public for the first time. The reception was overwhelming. The dream of opening a place that could help so many people at once was a reality.
